A Small Space Has Turned Into an Exceptional Traditional Home Wine Cellar in Vancouver
Blue Grouse Wine Cellars built a traditional home wine cellar in a modern-style home. The stylish features made the wine room sophisticated and functional. They made sure that all of the elements would complement the existing décor and create a focal point on the main floor of the client’s house.
Modern interior design is becoming a favorite in the construction industry. Most homeowners who have a modern home also go with modern furniture and accessories. If you want to add a twist to your space, it is best to work with an experienced contractor and builder.
For this particular project in West Vancouver, Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had to build a wine room in a modern style home. Instead of creating a contemporary home wine cellar using metal wine racks, our team installed traditional wooden wine racks. The finished product? It is an excellent wine storage place for 420 bottles!
Elegant Features of this Custom Home Wine Cellar
The room Blue Grouse Wine Cellars had to utilize is located on the main floor beside the bar area adjacent to the stairs. It has a dimension of 119” W x 43” D x 102” H. The wine racks, door, flooring, and refrigeration system were chosen very carefully to meet the aesthetic requirements of the clients.
Custom Wood Wine Racks
The racking system plays a crucial role in achieving the desired mood and appeal of your home wine cellar. As a professional builder, we used our creativity to come up with a stunning wine rack design for a small space.
Our team manufactured the custom wine racks from Oak, which is a versatile hardwood known for its durability, strength, and distinctive grain patterns. It is also easy to work with and takes in stain finishes well.
For this home wine cellar project in Vancouver, we applied the wine racks with a custom finish to make them look dark brown. Oak is also highly resistant to insect infestation and can withstand the humid conditions in a refrigerated wine cellar.
Bottle Configurations
We combined different racking styles to create a unique wine cellar display that would be the focal point on the main floor of this modern home in Vancouver. The diamond bins and wood cases are ideal for bulk storage while the horizontal display sections are for storing the bottles with the labels facing out.
We also included two quarter-round shelves, which are intended for displaying a few bottles of wine, accouterments, and accessories. We added display rows on both sides of this traditional home wine cellar in Vancouver. They pitch the bottles at an angle, keeping the cork moist.
Wine Cellar Lighting, Glass Door, and Flooring
Your lighting can make or break the overall appeal of your wine cellar. Illuminating We added an LED lighting system above the display rows to add a dramatic effect. The ceiling pot lights and the single glass door were installed by another builder.
As happens quite often, Blue Grouse teamed up with other builders to complete the room. We take pride in being able to work with other contractors and teams to help our clients create the wine cellar of their dreams. Here, we teamed up with another builder for the door and the flooring. The flooring is made of light brown rectangular tiles, which matches the color of the wine racks very well.
Wine Room Preparation and Sealing
On this project, the owners had construction contractors whom we worked with closely to ensure that the structural requirements were met. The contractors prepared and finished the room based on the instructions provided by Blue Grouse.
They added the foam insulation and vapor barrier. Creating an airtight seal is a crucial step in wine cellar construction. Poor insulation can lead to faulty wines, breakdowns of your refrigeration equipment, and other costly damages in the future. They also created the ceiling cavity where we housed the cooling unit evaporator, condensate pipe, and power supply.
Wine Cellar Cooling System
With different brands, models, and sizes of wine cooling systems, it is easy to choose the wrong unit. Therefore, it is essential that you work with a refrigeration expert like Blue Grouse Wine Cellars.
We performed a heat load calculation to help us determine the correct type and size of the climate control system. We also wanted to maximize the capacity of the room.
Ceiling Mount Wine Refrigeration Unit by WhisperKool
We installed a WhisperKool Ceiling Mount 8000 model. This cooling unit was perfect for the shape and size of the home wine cellar. It is designed to pull in the warm air accumulated at the ceiling. After cooling the warm air, it disperses it throughout the wine room.
Another benefit of the Ceiling Mount split system unit is that no equipment is visible within the racking or on the wall because the evaporator unit is installed and concealed within the ceiling and condenser unit installed outdoors.
The two units are connected by a copper refrigerant line set that was installed before the installation of the drywall in the home. The remote display controller is mounted on the wall.
Other Features of the WhisperKool Ceiling Mount Split System
The CM Series wine cooling systems by Whisperkool are equipped with features that make them function more efficiently.
- No ducting required
- Visual alarm – An icon is shown when the unit encounters an issue that needs attention. This feature helps ensure that the temperature and humidity levels are at their ideal levels.
- Equipped with a condensate pump system to remove excess condensation
- Optional active humidity control integrated system – Ensures that the ideal amount of humidity is maintained. It utilizes the Intermittent Mist Technology
- Injection, which prevents mold growths by eliminating the use of filters or pads, and other ma trials that trigger bacteria.
- Durable grille in black powder-coated finish (can be painted to match your wine cellar)
